Wow, I have been MIA and I am sorry. The past 4-6 weeks have been crazy and I have been all over the place. My best friends turned 30, my grandma turned 90, and my brother is getting deployed
so we through him a going away party! All of these events happened in different states, outside of Texas. So, when I wasn't celebrating I was in ATX working, doing laundry or sleeping. With that being said, it did not leave much time for working out ( I put my membership on hold) and I did not feel like cooking.
Usually, after a few days of eating out and not working out I don't feel good and I get grumpy (my husband would agree to this). This time was different, I decided to look at it differently. I wanted to enjoy my time with my friends and family and not worry about my diet, as much. Yes, when we ate out I would go for a healthier option and I still tried to get in all my fruits and veggies. However, that was not achievable every day and sometimes a few beers filled the spot of my dinner. I feel that having a night like this, occasionally, filled with the people you love is healthy. Yes, dietitians are real people and we like to have a few drinks and eat pub food too!
This is not a lifestyle that I promote, it was very unhealthy, if it is your everyday lifestyle. Over 1 short month I put on a few pounds, could tell my endurance had decreased, and always felt tired. It made me realize how hard we have to work to be in good health, but how quickly we can lose it. I would not have changed anything about last month because I had a great time and it made coming back and getting back into my routine easier.
We all have events and vacations come up- it's one of the best parts of life! :)
Therefore, this is a topic I like to discuss with all of my clients, before it happens. I believe it is extremely healthy and important to be able to enjoy these moments. Now, I am not promoting choosing fried foods and ice cream every night to help you enjoy your night more. I am talking about the special events or trips, that do not happen often. I believe that talking about the choices or activities before it happens helps myself, and my clients, enjoy their time more.
Time goes fast, making it important to enjoy each day and all of it's special moments. However, let's choose to live a healthier lifestyle so we can enjoy it longer and be less of a burden. I like to think of it is an 80/20 rule: 80% choose "healthier" options and be active and then 20% have fun and don't worry about what you're eating or drinking.
